Father, pastor, community advocate, humanitarian, songwriter, dentist, educator, singer, musician, entrepreneur, host of a medical radio talk show, TV and radio preacher, and Bishop; these describe some of the talents and assignments of Bishop Leonard S. Scott. Jeremiah 1:4 says, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee.” God has greatly anointed Bishop Scott in the area of music. As a child, he had a strong passion and an ear for music. This gift helped him learn to play various instruments, including the lead guitar, the flute, the saxophone, and the bass guitar. Bishop Scott attended Indiana State University. While studying dentistry, he sang in a rock band called the Soul Messengers. Although the name of his band was Soul Messengers, Bishop Scott realized that there was a void in his own soul. He was searching for something to fill that void, and he finally found it.
In 1972, Bishop Scott received a precious gift from God as recorded in Acts 2:38: “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the HOLY GHOST.” He became a new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature”) and fell in love with serving God and spreading the gospel. Through the years he has taught Sunday school, served on the official board, and worked in the music ministry and outreach ministry at his home church under the leadership of the honorable Bishop James E. Tyson.
In 1986 Bishop Scott was called to the preaching ministry. Thirteen years later, in 1999, he received and accepted the call to start a church. The following year, with the blessing and support of his pastor Bishop James E Tyson, he and his wife stepped out on faith and opened the doors of Rock Community Church. Three short years later, Bishop Tyson recommended that Bishop Scott serve as Suffragan Bishop under the Honorable Bishop Michael Hannah, Diocesan of Kenya, Africa. Bishop Scott accepted this call with the unction to take the mission of Rock Community Church to Africa. That mission is “to reach the masses with the gospel, making them worshipping, witnessing disciples of Jesus Christ.” The mission will be made manifest with his new charge. Since his initial calling to preach the gospel, Bishop Scott has traveled throughout the United States and overseas proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ.
In 1976 the Lord lead Bishop Scott to start what has become the world’s oldest black-owned gospel recording company, Tyscot Records. Tyscot has been home to many great recording artists, including Rev. John P. Kee and the New Life Community Choir, Dr. Bobby Jones and New Life, Rodnie Bryant and the Christian Community Mass Choir, the Gospel Music Workshop of America Women of Worship, Greater Grace Temple Mass Choir, The Rance Allen Group, Bishop Larry D.Trotter, Deitrick Haddon and Voices of Unity, Inner City Mass Choir and Trinity Temple Full Gospel Mass Choir featuring Kirk Franklin and many others.
In 1986 Bishop Scott recorded his first solo album, with his beautiful wife First Lady Christine Scott. The project was produced by Rev. John P. Kee and was entitled, “Holy”. Since then he has written over 100 songs, many of them recorded by various artists, and has participated in numerous recording projects with other national artists. He has recorded nine albums, including “Power Source,” “Garment of Praise Volumes 1 and 2,” “Celebration of Praise” and “Praises From Antigua”. As a dynamic praise and worship leader, the music of Bishop Leonard Scott is rooted and grounded in a deep and sincere desire to worship God with his whole heart.
Bishop Leonard S. Scott is married to the lovely First Lady Christine Scott, and is the father of 7 children and 10 grandchildren. He is an Indiana licensed and practicing dentist, and is a fellow of Academy of General Dentistry, a member of the American Dental Association, the National Dental Association, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Alpha Omega Professional Fraternity, the Gospel Music Association, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and the Gospel Music Workshop of America. Bishop Scott serves on the Board of Directors and teaches Principles of Worship and New Testament Survey at Aenon Bible College.
The purpose of Bishop Scott’s ministry is to glorify God, edify the Church and win the lost to Christ. His ministry is one of encouragement, instruction, salvation, enlightenment, deliverance, worship and praise. He believes that nothing is impossible to those who believe, and that nothing is too hard for God.
